The Flue Curing Method

Light coloured tobacco types (Mammoth Gold and White Burley) were flue cured, i.e. the drying process depended on heating the barns without exposing the leaves to the smoke. Fire fed boxes strictly regulated in order to keep a constant temperature inside the barn kept the interior warm through a flue system. In contact with the iron tubes, the warm air rose and dried the hanging tobacco leaves.
